Items seized as part of investigation into League of Ireland bribe allegation

Gardaí recovered suspicious items in relation to a spot-fixing allegation
An allegation of bribery in the League of Ireland (LOI) has seen gardaí seize a number of suspicious items as part of their investigation.
An anonymous LOI player reported an incident of spot-fixing, where a person approached the player and offered them money to manipulate a game in some way.
An example of spot-fixing might be to get a yellow or red card on purpose. It relates to bribery of one person, rather than a match fix which would require multiple players to be on board.
Gardaí have since released a statement in relation to their latest developments in the investigation: “The Garda National Economic Crime Bureau conducted a search in Dublin, on Thursday, February 29, as part of an investigation into an alleged bribery incident relating to a sports fixture.
“Items of potential evidential value were seized. No arrests have been made at this time.”
The FAI also released a statement regarding the alleged incident, where they said that they are aware of the allegation and thanked the player for reporting it so quickly to gardaí, the Professional Footballers Association of Ireland and gardaí for their assistance with the matter.
Investigations are ongoing.
