The winning ticket matched five numbers and two Lucky Stars to claim the top prize
The winning ticket from Friday night's Euromillions draw worth an incredible €17 million was sold in Ireland, the National Lottery has confirmed.
The winning ticket matched five numbers and two Lucky Stars, making it a life-changing festive surprise. The player was the sole winner of the draw as intrigue surrounds the unknown lucky Irish player whose exact location and identity are yet to be revealed.
The National Lottery has confirmed that the winning ticket was sold in a retail store in the Ulster region, with more details to be announced in the coming days.
The winning ticket was sold online and players have been urged to check their numbers carefully as the search to find the winner goes on.
The winning numbers of Friday's draw were 7, 25, 30, 37, 41 and the lucky stars were 5 and 11.
This is the second time this year that an Irish player has won the EuroMillions jackpot, following the historic €250 million win in June - the largest National Lottery jackpot prize ever.
A spokesperson for the National Lottery has said: "In total, over 44,000 players in Ireland won prizes in the Euromillions and Plus games."
The luck of the Irish continued as an online player in Co. Limerick became the second biggest winner of the night after scooping the €500,000 top prize in the EuroMillions Plus draw.
The numbers in last night’s EuroMillions Plus draw were: 11, 16, 31, 35 and 38.
Finally, a EuroMillions player in Co. Kilkenny is celebrating a €30,745 win after matching five numbers in the main draw. Their Quick Pick ticket was purchased on the day of the draw, at Kitty’s Cabin, 1 Rose Inn Street, Kilkenny.
National Lottery spokesperson, Emma Monaghan, shared: "We are absolutely thrilled to announce that an Irish player has won the €17 million EuroMillions jackpot in last night’s draw. This is the second EuroMillions jackpot won in Ireland this year, following the historic €250 million win in June."
She continued: We’re encouraging all players to check their tickets very carefully. If you are the winner, sign the back of your ticket and keep it somewhere safe. We’ll reveal more details about the winning location in the coming days."
Meanwhile in the Irish Lotto, A Louth jackpot winner who has chosen to stay anonymous has claimed over €7 million in winnings at the Lottery Headquarters following their success in the October draw.
Reflecting on the life changing moment, the Lotto millionaire admitted that it was a late-night scroll on the phone that led to the discovery of the win, with the entire family joining in the shock of the windfall.
They said: "I was watching television with my husband and there wasn’t a lot happening at one point during the programme, so I did the typical thing of scrolling through my phone. It was only then that I saw the email about a win, so I checked my account and immediately turned to my husband and sheepishly said ‘I think I’ve won the Lotto’.
She continued: "He definitely didn’t believe me so didn’t even look away from the television as he told me that I couldn’t have! When he finally realised I wasn’t joking, the two of us were totally in shock."
"It was around midnight at this point, and I even rang my mother to give her the news – I think the entire family were awake until around 3am in total disbelief!”
The lucky Louth player described their first purchase with the prize money and outlined what their plans are for the future following the huge win.
They stated: "The first thing I did was buy VIP tickets to Westlife! I am counting down the days until that one and then my next dream is a holiday home in Ireland. I still can’t believe this has happened, but I am so excited to celebrate with my family."
As for the Euromillions draw, anticipation builds around the luck Irish winner may be with more details to be revealed in the coming days.
Once the player makes contact with the National Lottery, arrangements will be made for them to collect their life-changing prize.
