Police in Spain have launched an investigation into the deaths of an Irish couple at a coastal resort in Valencia.

The bodies of the 50-year-old man and the 45-year-old woman were found at a property in the town of Cullera, south of Valencia, the Civil Guard has confirmed.

They were discovered by their children, who are aged 14 and 15.

“At first, it is ruled out that it is a violent death. A police investigation is ongoing,” the Civil Guard said in a statement.

A spokesperson for the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade said in a statement: “The Department is aware of this case and is providing consular assistance in the case of the Irish citizen concerned.

“As with all consular cases, the Department does not comment on the details of individual cases.”
