Limerick man Timmy (Louis) Collins was tragically killed in a collision with another motorbike over the weekend in Kerry, just one week after fellow Limerick native and motorcyclist Pat O’Shaughnessy died in a crash

The motorcyclist killed in the road traffic collision in Kerry on Sunday, September 7 has been named locally as Limerick man Timmy (Louis) Collins. Mr Collins was the second motorcyclist from Limerick to have tragically perished in a collision outside of his native county in the space of a week.

The death notice was published this Tuesday of Mr Collins, aged in his 50s, of Dromalainn, The Hill, Abbeyfeale, County Limerick, who it reads “passed away on Sunday, September 7, following an accident”.

A week earlier, Pat O’Shaughnessy, aged in his 40s, of High Meadows, Gouldavoher Estate, Dooradoyle, Limerick City, passed away on Sunday, August 31 after a collision involving a van in Drogheda.

Mr Collins died in a road traffic collision involving two motorcycles on the Conor Pass in Kerry on Sunday evening. A male driver and a female passenger of the second motorbike were brought by ambulance to University Hospital Kerry with non-life-threatening injuries.

Gardai are continuing to investigate the fatal collision. They have appealed to anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or who was travelling on the Conor Pass (R560) between 4.15pm and 5pm on Sunday and has dash-cam footage, to contact them at Tralee Garda Station on (066) 7102300.

Abbeyfeale-based county councillor, Liam Galvin told the Irish Independent that Mr Collins was a “gentle giant” and “one of the nicest people you could ever meet”.

“He hadn't an enemy on the planet. He was so pleasant, so polite. Loved his bikes, just going for his cruises and driving around,” said Mr Galvin.

Mr Collins is very sadly missed by his heartbroken partner Mary, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, aunts Bridget and Madeline, uncle Tim, cousins, all his other relatives, neighbours and a large circle of friends, including his friends in the biking community. He is predeceased by his parents Louis and Katie.

Funeral arrangements have been announced. Mr Collins will be reposing at his home in Dromalainn, The Hill, Abbeyfeale (V94 P9CW) on Wednesday, September 10 from 5pm until 8pm. A traffic management system will be in place with mourners asked to approach from Clash Road / Dromtrasna.
