Expressway, Bus Éireann’s commercial coach service, announce changes to fare structure to offset the impact of rising business costs

Expressway, Bus Éireann’s commercial coach service, has announced changes to its fare structure to offset the impact of rising costs on the business and to continue to incentivise online ticket purchases.

These changes will impact customers travelling from July 29, 2024.

On average, fares will increase by 4.5% with adult single fares increasing by a minimum of 50 cent.

A new Six Journey Weekly Travel Pass is now available, giving hybrid workers greater discounted travel options.

Speaking this Tuesday, Andrew Yates, Head of Expressway, said that they "have not taken this decision lightly".

"Like all transport operators, Expressway continues to deal with challenges posed by significant increases across its cost base including those related to wages, utilities, maintenance materials, insurance; and in particular, fuel which is up 22% year-on-year."

"In recent months major public transport operators across Ireland have increased fares, ranging from 3 to 14%. These include Irish Rail, Dublin Bus, Luas, and a number of intercity commercial bus operators," he continued.

"The necessary increases are required in order to maintain our current level of services and to allow us to continue to meet the needs of our customers, and the more than 200 communities that benefit from the connectivity Expressway provides.”

Full details of the new fares are available at expressway.ie.
