A number of banking services have been affected by the disturbances on Thursday afternoon

Customers across the country have been impacted by widespread outages impacting a number of Bank of Ireland services on Thursday afternoon.

According to reports online, hundreds of people have said that they have experienced issues with accessing their online banking, the 365 app, withdrawing cash from Bank of Ireland ATMs, as well as making online and in person purchases with their bank card.

Well over 800 people reported the issue on Downdetector.ie and even more took to social media to ask Bank of Ireland when the issues were due to be resolved.

The Bank responded to most of the comments online, apologising to customers and saying they are aware of the issues affecting customers: "We are aware that customers are experiencing some issues with services currently, we are investigating this and we will provide an update as soon as possible. Apologies for any inconvenience."

In a statement from Bank of Ireland, the bank said: "Some Bank of Ireland customers experienced issues with services earlier today. Technical teams immediately took action, with all services fully restored by 3pm. We apologise for any inconvenience caused during this short outage."
