Gardaí can now issue the Fixed Charge Notice per registration plate

Gardaí are reminding motorists across Ireland that they could be subject to a €60 Fixed Charge Notice for displaying non-conforming registration plates.

Non-conforming Irish registration plates include those that:

  • Use custom or non-standard fonts
  • Have incorrect sizes, colours, or spacing
  • Omit the EU flag or “IRL” identifier
  • Are designed to defeat ANPR systems

An Garda Síochána have said for each non-regulation, missing, or obscured plate a €60 Fixed Charge Notice can be issued per plate.

All registration plates must meet Irish format and visibility standards.

Earlier this week, the Naas Roads Policing Unit stopped a vehicle which was displaying non-conforming registration plates.
