The Food Safety Authority of Ireland issued the recall over the raw chicken products sold in Lidl stores all over Ireland

Lidl has issued a nationwide recall of popular food products due to the presence of salmonella.

According to the Food Safety Authority of Ireland, some batches of the supermarket’s own brand chicken breast products have been found to contain the bacterium.

Although the implicated batches are past their use-by date, the products are suitable for home freezing. Consumers are advised to check their freezers for the affected products.

The impacted items include:

The 291g Free Range 100% Irish Chicken Breast Fillets, with an approval number of IE 803 EC. The use-by date is April 12 and the batch code is L1023753.

People infected with salmonella typically develop symptoms between 12 and 36 hours after infection but this can range between 6 and 72 hours also. The most common symptom is diarrhoea, which can sometimes be bloody.

Other symptoms may include fever, headaches and abdominal cramps. The illness usually lasts 4 to 7 days. The diarrhoea can occasionally be severe enough to require hospital admission. The elderly, infants and those with impaired immune systems are more likely to have a severe illness.

Recall notices will be displayed at point-of-sale in Lidl stores and consumers are advised not to eat the implicated batches.
