'A right eejit' – Woman calls RTÉ to claim 14 bottles of wine misplaced in strange spot

After a mix-up with 14 bottles of wine, one woman has stepped forward as their rightful owners, having placed them in the wrong boot.

Speaking on RTÉ Radio 1's Liveline with Joe Duffy, Mary, a resident of South Dublin, discovered 14 bottles wine in the boot of her car and took to the radio show to find their rightful owners.

Mary recalled the discovery, saying: "Yesterday afternoon, I just happened to open my boot to the car and I discovered wine. There were 12 bottles of white and 2 bottles of red." She explained, "Some poor unfortunate person put it into my car by mistake. I was in Stillorgan car park."

Mary revealed that there were six bottles of white Oyster Bay and six bottles of white Villa Maria along with two bottles of Tesco's own-brand red in the boot.

Joe pressed for details about Mary's car, to which she humorously replied, "It's a vintage car now. 231-D, a silver Ford Fiesta."

Joe then received a call from Florence who called in to clear up the mystery. "Hello, I'm stepping forward feeling a right eejit because of putting the wine in the wrong boot," she stated to Joe and Mary.

Florence detailed her trip to Tesco in Stillorgan where she purchased the wine, only to mistakenly load it into Mary's car.

She said: "My car was beside, but there was a car between us... My car is a silver Yaris, and this car is a silver Ford." She explained that while returning a trolley token and carrying her shopping, she loaded the wine into the wrong vehicle.

"I bought the wine because I have four daughters and the Villa Maria was what one of my girls wants, and I could never find it," Florence explained.

Looking for a way to confirm the details, Joe asked Florence, "Can you tell me approximately what time you bought the wine on Sunday?" Florence replied, "About 2:48 or 2:50." Mary verified this with the receipt time, "14:42."

Mary then offered to return the wine to Florence, to which Joe laughed: "I think Flo and Mary might become lifelong friends. Over a bottle, over 14 bottles of wine of an afternoon."
